Visit to the Royal Opera House

Royal Albert Hall

Topping up more culture this week, I had a evening of ballet at the magnificient Royal Opera House.

Once again getting cheap tickets, my seat in the amphitheatre was £11 which got me second row to the side. I sat next to a guy who called himself a 'geek of ballet' who explained more about the acts.
It was a triple bill, starting with 'Chroma' which was created by the in house choreographer, Wayne McGregor. This one is bit of a big deal, it premiered in 2006 and went on to much critic success. I really don't know much about the art, but I really enjoy it on the level I understand. It rose and dipped to beautiful dramatic points with numerous pairs damcing sometimes in sync. Music was composed by Jack White and there was White stripe beats throughout.

The first two acts my heart was racing. they were so powerful! Both had very minimum set design. I liked the glimpses of lines of light that slowly appeared in 'The Human Seasons'.

The third act was a bit MENTAL. I tweeted to someone who was also there, we agreed they looked like Doctor Who monsters with slightly noisy costumes. Very weird. It's from the 60s, what more can I say.

It's not first time I've been to the ROH, I first went last year to see 'Carbon Life', also by Wayne McGregor which is probably one of best live performances I've EVER seen. It was just so mind blowingly cool and inspiring. The dancers wore these dark costumes designed by Gareth Pugh. Mark Ronson wrote the music, and was there, on stage playing with his band right at the back. OK and BOY GEORGE came on! This was the final act following a slow contemporary act and a traditional story ballet, definitely not what I was expecting.

So this trip didn't beat 'Carbon Life' but I enjoyed it none the less. This weekend I will be doing a social media course to beef up my skills. :)
